How I collect your data
When you write down or tell me things about yourself or when you fill in the enquiry form online or sign up to the newsletter. I’m not a spy or a big evil company that steals people’s details, you will know when you’ve given me any information about yourself.
How I use your data
I have two reasons to use your data. First is contractual necessity. I have to know your address in order to post your photos to you. I need to know your name so I don’t have to call you “Hey”. I need to know the date and location of your shoot so I can actually be there, etc.
Then there’s contacting you about something not directly connected with your purchase. You have to deliberately opt in. No more “uncheck this box if you don’t want not to…” etc. You have to say yes please. It’s weird because I’m a real person and I hope we’ll have an honest to god actual human friendship. So once we’re friends on facebook I’m not sure if I need your permission to let you know that Zombieland 2 is coming out. LOVED the first one. The main thing is the newsletter…
I’m soon going to start writing a regular newsletter about photo tips. It is NOT going to be just selling you stuff. It IS going to be like, how to take great photos of kids, how to take flattering photos on an iphone, what camera to buy for a holiday, etc. It’s actually going to be GOOD. And I will sometimes say “Hey, here’s a deal if you want to give a christmas gift.” You can always unsubscribe if I lied and it’s not as good as I said.
Photos as personal data
Infuriatingly, GDPR lumps our beautiful, creative, hand-crafted photographs of you in with CCTV images from a local corner shop. They’re not the same. If no shoplifting has occurred fine, wipe the VHS tapes. But the photos I produce are my gorgeous portfolio as well as your cherished memories. I really appreciate being able to show my work to potential future customers. Chances are that’s the only reason you were interested in booking me yourself. If you have an important reason for needing to stay private please ask and we will be able to agree something separate to this notice. But I’m bound to assume you work for MI5 whatever you say.
